Can do you work ELE teacher without experience or training, simply by the fact of being native?

We can not give an affirmative response, or negative, without the relevant clarifications. In principle, in most of the cases that we have detailed in the previous section, the answer is a 'no'. To work at the Instituto Cervantes, as well as in the universities or centres of primary or secondary education, It takes some training and experience.

First of all, they tend to look for people with University studies, preferably in Humanities: degree in Philology, Translation and interpretation, Sciences of education, Diploma in teaching, etc. In addition, in many cases they demand to have a teaching-related training, such as the CAP or any course of didactics and methodology for the teaching of ELE.

Having a master's degree is not a prerequisite, Although obviously it depends on the square in question and of competition there at that time. The experience is certainly, as in any other field, one of the most valued points of your CV.

However, as I said, everything depends on the Centre in particular and of the moment in which you request the job, since they will always choose the best formed person. There are many academies in which classes are taught by native people who have none of the qualities described above. However, the situation differs greatly with regard to the teaching of English, Since in this case the demand is so great, that just have some knowledge of this language, even without being native, You can give private lessons, in a nursery school or in an Academy, without any problem.

On the one hand, at the time of the interview, will almost always do it in Spanish, Since you speak with the Department of Spanish, with a Center who speaks Spanish or any other teacher responsible. In the case of some small Academy in which you hire to give private lessons, If policymakers don't know Spanish, Do not worry, You can talk to them in English. Even so, as always, It depends on the square and the Centre in particular: for kindergartens or primary schools, they often require some knowledge of this language.
